MIND web site updated (01-02-2009)

The MIND web site has recently been updated to help improve the usability, as well as to make troubleshooting information easier to find. The main content area of the site consists of up-to-date news to help customers stay informed of any updates and outages.

You can find the SquirrelMail login at top-left of any page, and help for dial-up and email settings for each operating system under the 'Help' section. As always, if you need further assistance, please call the MIND help line to request assistance at 989-832-2344.

Important Virus, SPAM, and Phishing Information, Spyware

Due to recent virus, spam, and phishing outbreaks, the MIND support team strongly encourages MIND subscribers to aquire a complete virus software package like (AVG) from Grisoft. Once purchased it is extremely crucial that the software is kept up to date. Currently, AVG is the only virus software that is FREE with a small demand on your computer resources, unlike some other anti-virus packages and capable of scanning e-mail for viruses as it arrives, before any viruses have the chance to harm the computer. This is the third level of protection for your computer.

To fight the ever increasing amount of SPAM, MIND added a Barracuda Spam Firewall in May of 2004, It removes 95% plus of unwanted junk email daily, including most forms of phishing emails. Plus the Barracuda also removes most virsues as they arrive at MIND.(1st level of protection)

MIND also runs a 2nd level of protection on the MIND server checking for spam and viruses that are aimed to get around the firewall.

To combat spyware, MIND recommends using another free package called Spyblaster S & D available from Safer-Networking. Once you have installed it, it is again extremely crucial to keep it upto date. Or you can install the google tool bar which show good sites with a geen check mark, bad sites are marked with a red check mark.
