MIND Authenticated Outgoing Mail Setup

To help keep our mail server from being used by unauthorized guests to forward spam, we have made some changes to the way we handle outgoing mail. Customers who are using the webmail client (Squirrelmail) will not have to do anything different. Those using client packages, such as Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, etc., will have to set their clients to authenticate on send. This only affects mail being sent, and is a very small, quick change. This guide will help you make those settings for some of the most popular clients. Please note that this will only affect those people who are using Mindnet's server to send their outgoing mail (particularly our dial-up customers). Anyone using a broadband, or a dial-up account from another ISP will most likely have to send their mail through their ISP's server. Please contact them for their outgoing SMTP settings.

Eudora (Windows)

In Eudora, go to the TOOLS menu at the top, then down to OPTIONS. Click on the "Sending Mail" icon on the left under Category. Make sure the "Allow authentication" checkbox is selected. That's all you have to set for Eudora!

Outlook and Outlook Express (Windows)

In both Outlook and Outlook Express, go to the TOOLS menu at the top, then down to ACCOUNTS. Select the account you want to edit, then click on PROPERTIES on the right. When the properties window comes up for the account, click on the "SERVERS" tab at the top. Make sure the "My server requires authentication" checkbox is selected. That is all you have to do. If you click the SETTINGS button, you can re-enter your account name and password, or leave the default "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" checked (recommended).

Mail.app (Mac OS X)

In Mail.app, go to the MAIL menu, then down to PREFERENCES. Click on the ACCOUNTS tab at the top, then click on the account you want to edit on the left under Accounts. Under the ACCOUNT INFORMATION tab click on the SERVER SETTINGS button at the bottom. Make sure the Outgoing Mail Server is set to mindnet.org. Under AUTHENTICATION, select "Password" from the drop down menu. Enter in your username (without the @mindnet.org) and passwords in the corresponding fields. When you are done, click OK.
